- Place all cardboard panels to form a container having trapezoids on all its sides and the center. Make a rectangular shape in the middle. This is where the food is to be kept. Take care to incline panels at an angle of 30 degrees.
- Cover panels with aluminum foil, keeping an inch more on all sides to tape behind, leveling scratches and wrinkles. Apply rubber cement on all three pieces. The foil should resemble a mirror, such that sunlight strikes no wrinkles and deflects away from the food.
- Fold a strip of cardboard, with notches cut at four corners to facilitate folding into a nice square.
- Then, cover the lid with plastic or clear glass (slightly bigger than the lid) – used for trapping and storing the heat inside the cooker – by double sided tape or adhesive.
- Make three sets of looped rubber bands with two in each. Put the folded panel between top and bottom panels; put two loops on two sides and one beneath. Use them to assemble the panels, to be joined and open as and when needed.
- Fasten every corner of the lid with a rubber band each, and extend backward to the sides and solar cooker is ready to be used, when kept directly under the sun.
However, a small test can be done; keeping a black painted container with 2 inches in water, along with a cooking thermometer and results are noted every 5 or 10 minutes.
Thus, a cooking device is created, with very less maintenance, having no mobile element that might damage; can continue working for at least 15 years and there is no running cost after a handy, eco-friendly solar cooker is created.
