Every species that does not evolve, dies.
Skeptical? Look in the yellow pages for Dodo Bird Supplies,
Dinosaur Walkers or the Roman Embassy.
It's time to put evolutionary ideas to work to make sure our innovation helps us avoid our extinction. There's no shortage of technology and ideas. It's time to evolve.
Global Warming
We have the tools and the responsibility to solve one of the biggest problems facing the humanity today - global warming.
2,000 scientists from over 100 countries have documented the fact that carbon emissions are changing the earth's climate. D. James Baker, the former administrator of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently stated "there is better scientific consensus on this than any other issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics.
But U.S. fossil fuel interests like big oil and coal companies are fighting the evolution to innovative energies. Meanwhile seagulls have been spotted in the North Pole for the first time in history. And about 55% of the Great Barrier Reef has been bleached by rising sea temperatures.
The principle way that humans are changing the earth's climate is the release of carbon dioxide. All fossil fuels - oil, coal, and natural gas - emit CO2 when they release their energy.
Vehicles
A gallon of gasoline weighs about 6 pounds, but when it burns in your car, it makes about 28 pounds of carbon dioxide - the heat trapping gas that causes most of the world's global warming. (Carbon dioxide weighs more than the gas because the carbon in the gasoline combines with oxygen in order to release its energy.)
Now think about this. In the U.S., there are now more cars than people-and thanks to the trendiness of SUV's and full-size pick-ups, the vehicles that Americans choose consume more gas than ever. Add this to the ever-increasing number of vehicles in developing countries like China, and ask yourself, what's going to happen if we don't evolve?
DISTURBING FACT: Nearly a hundred years ago the Ford Model T got 25 miles per gallon. Today, a Ford Explorer gets just 16 miles per gallon.
Power Plants
Think we've evolved beyond the 19th century? Think again. America still produces over half of its electricity with coal. Maybe that works in 1804, but not for 2004. Coal burning power plants are the biggest polluter in the country, releasing more smog, soot, mercury, and global warming pollution than any other source. As a result, asthma is on the rise, fish are contaminated with mercury, and global warming is accelerating.
DISTURBING FACT: Over half of all Americans live in areas with unhealthy air. Kind of leaves you breathless, right?
Pollution and global warming already sucks. Let's not make it worse.
The solution: Evolve.
