The Function of PV Solar Panels
PV solar panels or photovoltaic solar panels are specially designed arrays of solar cells that are capable of directly converting solar radiation into electricity. The sun’s rays when transmitted to these PV solar panels, automatically gets converted into electrical power. As a result, homes, organizations or appliances that utilize sunlight for generating solar power, have solar panels installed in them. The renewable energy source obtained from the sun is one of the best ways of generating power. However, this radiated energy cannot be directly obtained from the sun. It needs to be converted through proper channels for utilizing it.

PV solar panels are extremely useful devices for electricity generation in remote areas. These can be used for lighting homes and offices as well as for recharging batteries for running cars or other appliances. But these need to be protected from the environment and are therefore packaged within glass sheets that protect the panels from damage. Semiconductors mainly constituting of silicon are used for the photovoltaic panels. These are very effective in absorbing the sun’s radiation and storing it for further usage.
Simply put the function of PV solar panels is to convert radiated light and energy into electrical current. In order to fulfill this basic function, the semiconductor first takes in the light available from the sun. While a part of it is absorbed by it, the rest is transmitted to the electrons present within the panels. The electrons loosen up and become free flowing. This in turn results in the formation of electricity which is eventually transmitted through wires to be utilized for various purposes.

Simple Working of Solar Panels
The main ingredient utilized for making PV solar panels is silicon. With the growing popularity of renewable energy sources, the demand for PV solar panels is also on the rise. This is one of the fastest growing energy technologies at present, making it almost indispensable for generating solar energy. Although these panels are expensive to install, with its growing demand, the cost has been considerably reduced. Once installed these are almost maintenance free and provide users the flexibility of enjoying uninterrupted electricity flow over long periods of time.
PV solar panels can be installed on roofs or within the walls of a building. These act as primary or ancillary sources of electricity in places where they are installed. Subsequently panels can also be placed outside the building as well. It is also being largely used for industrial buildings where power consumption rates are quite high. Moreover these are also effective for running batteries used in cars and boats. Photovoltaic power plants are the biggest users of this technology and developed countries like Spain, Germany and America is largely utilizing this energy resource. Developing countries like India are also using PV solar panels for generating solar power.
